
The First Commandant of the Myanmar Coast Guard
Rear Admiral Ko Ko Kyaw formerly served as the Commandant of the Myanmar Coast Guard. He was a wide knowledge and great vision Commandant for Myanmar Coast Guard. He joined the Myanmar Navy as an Executive Officer in 1987 and underwent officer cadet training at the Defence Services Academy.
Rear Admiral Ko Ko Kyaw is a Long Gunnery Specialist and completed the 31st Batch of the Defence and Strategic Studies Course at the National Defence University, China, in 2012. Throughout his distinguished naval career, he served in various key positions, including Additional Officer and Executive Officer on several types of Myanmar Navy ships. He also held command positions as the Commanding Officer of Fast Attack Craft and Corvette-class vessels.
In addition to his sea commands, he held important staff roles and commands such as Fleet Commander, Deputy Commander of the Naval Region Command, and Assistant Chief of the Armed Forces Training.
Rear Admiral Ko Ko Kyaw actively participated in various international military and maritime forums. He took part in the MILAN naval exercise in India, ReCAAP Workshops in Singapore, and the Maritime Power Conference in India. He also attended the 14th and 17th Asia-Pacific Programme for Senior Military Officers in Singapore, Cobra Gold 2014 in Thailand, and the ASEAN Regional Forum Defence Officials’ Dialogue Meeting in Malaysia. His international training also included the ASC in Hawaii, SOUNOC in Norway, the DDR Course in Spain, and the BMEC Course in the United Kingdom. He participated in the 18th HACGAM and ACF 2022 as well.
On 6th October 2021, he was appointed as Commandant of the Myanmar Coast Guard, marking the beginning of the organization. He led the Coast Guard from its founding until 21st October 2024. Following this role, he was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he served as Deputy Minister.
